The team got their top five problems approved and went on to select a primary problem to focus on. Once they had selected a primary problem, the team worked together to construct problem statements for all five problems.

The team shared their chosen problems and finalized their top 5 with Mr. Faizan. They selected their primary problem and started researching to create a problem statement for it.

In the first hour of the implementation course, the team was taught how to write a problem statement. All team members collaborated to apply what they had learned, and wrote a clear and concise problem statement for their primary problem.

The team went over the Research Problem Statement module with the whole group and then started working on the problem statements for each of their top 5 problems. They got their primary problem statement approved by Mr. Faizan and moved on to working on the problem statements for the other top 5 problems.

After the implementation course’s research problem statement module was presented to all innovators, the team started by recalling their primary problem and working on the problem statement. At one point, they realized the primary problem they had selected may not be convenient to work with, so they reselected and got to work!

The team started STAR Methodology for their primary problem. They began to identify all possible causes of the primary problem they had chosen. The team discussed what the weakest link might be, and finally isolated a cause of the problem as the weakest link.

This team finished creating the questions for the reasons for their primary problem. They were encouraged to not only think broadly but also in-depth, so they spent most of the time creating these questions. After this, the team moved on to answering the questions for each reason for the primary problem.

Finish answering questions for each reason for the primary problem & continue questions if anymore are thought of!

The team determined a Root Cause Analysis concerning their primary problem. A timeline, causal graph, and weakest link were also identified. They were able to come to a close on which cause of the problem is most prominent to solve, thus taking them further into the innovation process.

The team began working on STAR Methodology for their chosen primary problem. This involved determining all possible causes for the problem and also selecting the weakest link. They constructed a causal graph to visualize their work.

This team finished creating questions for their primary problem’s STAR Methodology and then moved on to answering these questions. After they answered the questions, they moved on to Root Cause Analysis and collaborated on the causal graph.

The kids focused on a slightly different exercise this time during class. The kids were challenged to redesign Earth. They spent time drawing out their visualizations, as well as explaining the things they would do differently. The kids redesigned Earth 3 times, each time coming up with more creative designs; eventually coming up with a solar system design replicating a flower!

The kids were presented with the same challenge, to redesign Earth, instead of the problem-solving based questions they are used to. They used each other’s ideas to brainstorm further and were able to come up with creative redesigns. They drew their solutions and shared them with each other!
