Problem Statement:

Water is a depleting resource and humans have overused groundwater reserves.

Further, many countries have close access to the ocean while they struggle with acute water shortages. Pure drinking water is getting scarce as cities grow. The water level in cities is going down. Desalinating ocean water is a painfully slow and energy-consuming process.

About the Innovation:

Young innovators from DiscoverSTEM came up with a system that accelerates the desalination of ocean water.

This innovation desalinates ocean water for human consumption without using any external energy source for desalination. The water is heated through geothermal heat and steam rises to high water tanks, thus eliminating the need for the water pump and the energy for that purpose.
