Problem Statement:

Products at a supermarket are often touched by people before being purchased.

These products can become contaminated if touched by an infected person, leading to potential health hazards for families. There is a pressing need for a system that disinfects supermarket items at the register before they are brought home.

About the Innovation:

Young inventors from DiscoverSTEM developed an innovative apparatus that uses UV-C light and conveyor belts to sanitize products effectively.

Items enter the machine, where UV-C light kills harmful bacteria and viruses from all sides. Conveyor belts move the products through the apparatus for about a couple of seconds, ensuring thorough sanitization. Reflective strips and glass base help UV-C light reach all sides of the items. Once sanitized, the products are handed over to the customer.
